DOWNTOWN HUTCHINSON MURAL STROLL
1 “The Minnesota Huntress Paradise” by Hannah Anema
34 Main Street South (alley behind State Farm)
Hannah Anema is a painter, muralist, graphic designer, and crafter out of Minnesota. From a young age her greatest passions have always been art and nature. Hannah is most well known for her work in oils. Most of her artwork is based off her interactions with the natural world. Hannah loves creating artwork that might give the viewer a different perspective of nature or create beauty out of something that once seemed mundane. She hopes her art can help strengthen the viewers’ love of nature, or instill a lost connection to earth, one painting at a time.
2 “Hutchinson Mural” by Lance Albers
146 Main St N (near Girl Scout Park)
3 "Crow River Moon" by Kess Fennell
41 Main St N (upper north corner)
"Crow River Moon" is inspired by the Crow River running through town. It is an appreciation of the nature that our town has to offer. Fall, my favorite of the seasons, influenced the color palette.
4 “The Giving Back Quilt” by Cynthia Buchholz
7 Main St N (upper south corner)
5 “Jewels of the Prairie” by Hannah Anema
3 Main St N (south wall Olita building)
6 “Just Add You” by Beth Gasser
37 Main S N (alley behind building, south wall)
Beth loves to travel, find, and photograph murals all over the world. She has been painting interior murals for over 25 years, but “Just Add You” butterfly wing is her first exterior mural. This mural was painted on what was arguably the hottest day of the summer in 2023!
7 "Evening Graze" by Kira Sabin
37 Main St N. (alley behind building, north wall)
"Evening Graze" is inspired by an old pastel drawing I made when I first started learning how to use them (as a medium). I studied cows in my art because they’ve always been a symbol of my journey traveling to and from Hutchinson. It’s an impressionistic, serene landscape that captures the sweet simplicity of a cow grazing at sunset.
8 Untitled by Zachary Chilson aka Chilly
22 1st Ave NE (alley beside Clay Coyote, west wall)
The Mural was designed originally as a geometric vision of a horizon of peaks and valleys, and also represented clay shards. In the original design there was more purple and there was a heartbeat that spelled Art that ran over it. That was scrapped, and more defined lines and shadows were added. The mural is one of the largest at 12 feet tall and 60 feet long. In the Fall of 2021, the wall was fully power washed, scraped, primed, initial background painted in two blocks (ground and sky) and then the shards were created free form with tape as the artist moved from North and South and met in the middle of the wall, which is very challenging to pull off well. The following Spring the outlines and final shading and coat were added when the weather allowed. In the case of this mural, the Clay Coyote commissioned the artist and paid him for his design and labor & covered the cost of all materials.
9 “By the Country Store” by Dave Wegscheid
105 Washington Ave E (Ace Hardware)
This mural was completed in 2017 and pays homage to local artist Les Kouba. Dave invites you to move in closer to the mural to appreciate the detail of Kouba’s prints on a larger scale.
10 “Starry Hutch” by Tara Tepley
137 Main St S (The Paint Factory back parking area)
This mural combines my favorite artist, Van Gogh, with my favorite painting, Starry Night, with my favorite style, Impressionism, in my hometown of Hutch where I got to open up my studio! The idea popped right into my head the moment Mary mentioned murals around town and I even got to have mine right behind the studio. (The pieces yet missing...it will have Chief Little Crow on the left where Van Gogh's Cypress Tree would be, it will have a paintbrush in the middle so anyone taking a picture in front of it can pretend they are painting it, and Hutchinson will be painted on the green sign on the far right).
11 “Quast Mural” restored by David Wegscheid
149 Main St S (upper south wall)
Historic Hutchinson partnered with Wegscheid to preserve this historic mural in 2001.
12 “Help the life of one person and you can help the community” by Samantha Cloutier
201 Main St S (south side of MidCountry Bank)
My mural is about community and coming together to help each other even when we don’t receive anything in return. I believe Hutchinson is great with “paying it forward” and I am inspired by the amazing helpful people I have come across in my life. This mural experience has been a very interesting one. I spent a lot of time bonding with my mother in the making of this mural, I think that’s what is so special to me about this mural after it was finished. I am very fortunate to have gotten this opportunity. I thank my family, friends, coworkers and clients at my job for helping me live a more quality life!
13 “Leaping Whitetails” by Hannah Anema
221 Main St S (alley behind Benny’s)
14 "The Way Up" by Kess Fennell
238 Main St S (south side of Genesis)
"The Way Up" is a representation of the seasons changing. It embodies the beauty of the continuous shifts in nature. Even if these changes are unexpected, there will always be a break in the clouds.
15 “Nostalgia” by Ariah Schmidt
138 Main Street South (alley behind building)
The 80’s was an iconic and influential era for media. Many of the toys and trends are instantly recognizable and defined by the decade. To this day, many people choose movies from the 80’s to watch on movie night and can quote any of the lines. My mural is meant to replicate that feeling of revisiting childhood and the joy that can come from taking a step back in time. While the past was by no means perfect, I enjoy preserving the aspects I love before they melt into obscurity.

16 “Be the Person” by Alexis Ammerman
518 Hwy 7 E (Dana’s Dog Spa)
This mural, dedicated to my best friend and canine companion, Violet, celebrates the bond between humans and their dogs. My goal was to capture the essence of the unconditional love, companionship, and pure-hearted friendship. Dogs have the remarkable ability to see the goodness in us, even when we stumble through our worst days. Be the person your dog thinks you are, is a gentle reminder to extend love, support, and a positive impact to those around you.
17 “Roots and Wings” by Alexis Ammerman
15 Michigan Ave. (Stamp and Storage)
Roots and Wings is a vibrant testament to the enduring bond of our community, portraying the idea of providing both roots and wings to those who call Hutchinson home. This mural is a reminder that in this community, we not only provide stability and support, but also inspire personal growth and encourage each other to become the individuals we aspire to be.
